Chat gives you a direct line to your building's property management team, right from the Cove app or dashboard. Whether you need to report an issue in your space, follow up on a request, or ask a quick question about the building, Chat is a faster and more direct way to reach your property team than email.
Your conversation with the property team is always available when you open Chat. Each conversation in your list shows:
- The time of the last message
- A preview of the most recent message
Your full message history is always available when you return, and read status syncs across devices. If you read a message on your phone, it will appear as read on the dashboard as well.
To participate in Chat, you need to be designated as a Chat Contact on your user profile. This is set by your Building Admin. If you are not sure whether you have been set up, reach out to your building management team.
Starting a New Conversation
Dashboard
- From the Chat page, click + New Chat in the upper right corner.
- A form will open with a Message field. Write your message to the property team.
- Click Save to send.
Mobile
- From the Chat page, tap + New Chat in the upper right corner.
- A screen will open with a Message field. Write your message to the property team.
- Tap Send Message to send.
If you have no existing conversations yet, the Chat page will show a "No Conversations" empty state and prompt you to start one by tapping the button at the top of the screen.
To continue an existing conversation, select it from your Chats list at any time. Your full message history is preserved in the thread.
Receiving Messages
When your property team sends you a message, it will appear in your conversation thread. On the dashboard, property team messages appear on the left side of the conversation. On mobile, they appear as grey bubbles on the left. Your own messages appear on the right, and a read receipt is displayed once your message has been delivered.
Property team messages do not show an individual sender's name. Messages from your building team will appear as coming from the property team as a whole rather than from a specific person.
Notifications
On the dashboard, a badge on the Chat navigation item shows the number of unread messages in your conversation. The badge updates in real time as new messages arrive and clears once you have read them.
Read status syncs across devices. If you read a message on the dashboard, it will appear as read on mobile as well.
